Unusual Spiral Galaxy by Celeste23forever Unusual Spiral Galaxy by Celeste23forever
A watercolor painting of an unusual Spiral Galaxy. Stars, gasses, dust and other matter swirl in yellow and golden browns, pink and violet, with darker swathes of dust, and brilliant specks of white and pale colors of stars. The bright galaxy fades subtley into the surrounding darkness of space, bathed in a cobalt blue light. Watercolor on hot press.

Thank you! :icongiantlovehug: Just keep practicing...and getting some books on how to paint watercolors couldn't hurt either. I'd be happy to share a few tips with you, if you're interested. ;)

One thing to keep in mind with watercolor is that you can remove paint as well as ad paint. One technique I use is to wet a q-tip to remove color softly. This creates the sense of a glowing "light spot". These work well for particularly bright, glowing stars as well as bright spots in galaxies. To create a brighter pinpoint of light, use an exacto knife and gently scrape away the color to reveal the white paper beneath. (Just make sure the paper is bone dry first. You can use a blow dryer to speed up the process.) Experiment with these techniqes both together and separtately to create different effects, and once you get proficient, try them in a finished painting.

While you're making a galaxy, build up layers of color gradually. When the layers dry, and the image and shape of the gallaxy are well defined, you can paint darker streaks to bring out swirls and clouds of dust. Once those areas dry, then dabble dots of light color in lighter areas to represent differently colored stars and pinpoints. Then use an exacto knife to bring out the brightest points.
